3 Homemade Mexican Dips

You know something peculiar about the mexican dips? They are primarily the same colour as the three colours in a mexican flag (lol!)...

Anyway, I have always enjoyed mexican cuisine and wanted to try my hands on preparing my own dishes. Hence, I started small with something easy, the party essentials - delicious and savoury chip dips!

Here, I tried three different conventional nacho dips with my own little twists, i.e. fresh chunky tomato salsa, cheesy sour dip without sour cream, and the ever popular, fresh guacamole.

Dip 1: Guacamole

2 large avocados
2-3 cherry tomatoes
1/2 a red onion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup lime or lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped coriander
Pinch of coriander powder

Chop the tomatoes and onions. Mash the avocados and mix in the chopped tomatoes, onions, coriander, minced garlic and lemon juice to the mashed avocados. Season with seasonings as required.

Dip 2: Chunky fresh tomato salsa

1-2 large tomatoes
1 Red onions
1/2 red pepper
1 teaspoon minced ginger and garlic paste
1/2 cup coriander
3-4 leaves of mint
1/2 cup lime or lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon mixed herb seasoning
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon chopped green chillies or paprika powder (optional)

Chop the tomatoes, pepper, onions, mint leaves and coriander. Toss them well with the ginger-garlic paste, olive oil and lemon juice. Season with salt, pepper, mixed herbs and green chillies or paprika if you prefer spicy.

Dip 3: Cheesy yogurt dip

1 cup greek yogurt or sour cream
1 tablespoon mayonaise (can also use low-fat alternatives)
1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or parmesan) or cream cheese
1 tablespoon tomato purée
1 tablespoon honey
Pinch of paprika
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of coriander powder
Salt and ground pepper to taste

Whip the greek yogurt, mayonaise, soft cheese, honey, tomato purée, spices and the seasonings together.

Now, tear open those chips bags and go on and enjoy some nachos and tortilla chips with them mean dips :)
