Simple shenanigans or naughty tricks, obnoxious pranks to ha ha hilarious practical jokes, I'm sure you all have had fun pranking people yourself or have been pranked by people. We all love practical jokes and pranks, to pull them and be played… But mostly to pull them on others though :p Well, I have been the victim of practical jokes wayyyy too many times now... lol! It's alright so long as it is safe and harmless. But where exactly did the tradition of "April Fool's day" start???
Well, pranking has been around for a very long time. In fact, and to my utmost surprise, the tradition is as old as 1500s and originated in France. Traditionally, prior to April Fool's day being officially celebrated, Romans celebrated 25th of March as "Hilaria", a day for pranks and jokes. In medieval times some even held a feast called "Feast of Fools" on the 28th of December, some spanish-speaking countries still continue the tradition of pranking people on this day of the year. Anyway, the tradition of 1st april as the day prank must have started from the fact that back in mid 16th Century up until the 18th century people in Europe celebrated New years on the 25th of March, some people in France even celebrated new years for a week till starting from the 25th of March to the 1st of April. However, there were few who had already accepted 1st January to be the start of the year, and these folks called those folks who didn't "April Fools"! Tradition stuck and from then on, till today there are millions of accounts on how the best trick was pulled on this very day :p From old 16th century french and english people to Madonna every one has had some real good time hoaxing other folks for laughs.
One of the oldest prank I know of is the one pulled at UK in 1698 when several people were tricked in to going to the Tower of London to see "Lions being washed". Silly! UK doesn't even have lions :p
Another famous one that actually worked was the 1957 BBC prank about Swiss Spaghetti tree and harvesting of those trees. Lol! Who ever believed that!!! Actually thousands did and requested a spaghetti plant for themselves till the radio announced it was a hoax :p
